Trump Looked at Jon Husted’s A$$, and Now We All Have To
“I don’t do this with men very often.” Very often. Basically, the locker-room talk has entered its Top Gun/Heated Rivalry era.
A note from Lawrence
On Monday night in Youngstown, the president told a hockey arena full of Ohio Republicans that he had looked at Sen. Jon Husted’s ass, and he did not mumble it. He announced it like a man reading the specials. Then came the disclaimer I can’t stop hearing: “I don’t do this with men very often.” Very often. As a gay man who spent the 1980s studying locker-room ceiling tiles, I have notes on cruising, and the first one is that you don’t narrate it into a microphone.
Underneath the joke is a real campaign. Trump says Husted’s poll numbers have gone “through the roof,” but a CNN/SSRS poll has Sherrod Brown ahead, 49 to 43. And this is the same movement that pulled a picture book about two male penguins off library shelves. The punch line writes itself. The part where I stop laughing is the double standard.
