Haley Stevens Lost the Primary, Then Lost Her F@#king Mind
Two days out, Michigan’s AIPAC favorite endorsed a Trump Republican over a $1,000 internet ad. Her own staff quit before the cameras came on.
A note from Lawrence
Two days before an election that could decide who runs the Senate, Rep. Haley Stevens, a Democrat, pointed a phone at her own face from inside her car and endorsed Republican Mike Rogers. This is the same Haley Stevens who lost the August 4 primary to Abdul El-Sayed, 48.45% to 47.55%, despite roughly $62 million in outside spending, nearly $30 million of it from AIPAC.
She conceded, promised to back the nominee, and did, for about three months. What broke her was a $1,000 online ad from Cenk Uygur’s Rebellion PAC. I’m Jewish, I’ve called Gaza a genocide in print, and I think that ad is garbage, tropes and all. I still don’t think it explains what she did. I walk through the timeline, the staff who quit, and why the ad was an excuse.
