Trump Called Two American Cities a “Small Price.” Hurricane Isaias Would Like a F@#king Word.
Twenty-six days before the midterms, the Gulf is about to send Republicans an invoice. Some might call it karma, but lives are at stake.
A note from Lawrence
On Monday night in Grand Island, Nebraska, the president stood before a cheering crowd and offered up Los Angeles and San Diego as a “small price” for his war with Iran and what it has done to gas prices. The crowd cheered. The White House cleanup crew said he meant nuclear weapons, which he never mentioned. San Diego’s mayor answered for the 115,000 service members who live there: “We are not expendable.”
Four days later the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season is crossing a bathtub-warm Gulf toward the oil coast, twenty-six days before the midterms. The small price is about to get a lot bigger, at the pump and in the places that were never supposed to be collateral.
