With 12 days to go, the news is good, and I don’t know what to do with my hands. I’m a gay man who came of age in the AIDS years, so my nervous system treats good news like a suspicious package. But the numbers are the numbers, so I counted them down Casey Kasem–style, from No. 7 to No. 1.
Trump’s approval sits at 31 to 36 percent in the latest polls. Democrats lead the generic ballot by 10 to 12 points. Cook moved 29 House races toward them in a week. Georgia’s first day of early voting shattered its record, and Dallas County more than doubled its 2022 opening day. And Democrats flipped the Florida House district that includes Mar-a-Lago. Then the part where I stop smiling: polls are not votes, so vote early.
