I Chose the Door Myself

After two years rebuilding from a career rupture I didn’t choose, I’m stepping fully into the independent business I built.

A note from Lawrence

The last time I left a job, I didn’t choose it. It ended after twenty-five years, in a meeting I still don’t understand, and was followed by two years of applications into the void: too expensive, too experienced, too fifty-something for rooms I had once helped build.

This time I chose the door myself and walked through it with the lights on, on a date I picked, with the work handed off cleanly. I’m going independent. Over two years on the side, I built a peptide-science publication, this Substack, a publishing company, and a podcast with my oldest friend. Somewhere in there, I stopped being a guy between jobs and became a guy with a business.
