I Love You, Dieter Murphy
The future is doomed, with me or without me. But me and Dieter Murphy, we’re going dancing.
A note from Lawrence
This is a short story. A time traveler from a fascist future lands in a sweltering Fort Lauderdale hospital in November 1989 with seventy-seven minutes, a silver ring, and an assignment: find his first boss, dying on an AIDS ward, and kill him on camera to buy his own freedom.
It’s a story about the men we lost, the friends we were too scared to say goodbye to at nineteen, and what you would do with one more hour if you could go back. I wrote it for the guardian angels of my generation. You’ll understand the title by the end.
